The Doña Ana County Humane Society offers to pay for $25 towards the adoption fee for senior citizens who wish to adopt a pet from the Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV).

• The Pets for Seniors Program helps pay the fees to the ASCMV for seniors age 60 and older who adopt a companion dog or cat.

• The discount is $25 off of the ASCMV’s adoption fee. ASCMV pets are all microchipped, in addition to their vaccines and spay/neuter surgery.

• We also offer two free training for any dog adopted through Pets for Seniors that is experiencing behavioral issues. Please see our Ruff to Ready Program for more information.

• The Pets for Seniors Program is administered by the ASCMV staff at the time of adoption.

The most serious disease for older people is not cancer or heart disease – its loneliness. Pets offer affection, unconditional love, fight loneliness and can help ease the loss of a loved one.
