Animal Relief Fund Update

In an effort to keep all of our clients healthy and help slow the spread of COVID-19, your Doña Ana County Humane Society (DACHS) is temporarily changing the way we serve clients who are in need of Animal Relief Fund (ARF) assistance during this time. With ARF funding available beginning April 1, we will switch from face-to-face in person appointments to accepting applications electronically, by mail, or in person through a mail drop system.

If you are in need of ARF funding, here are the steps to take:

STEP 1: Please call or email DACHS at (575) 647-4808 or dachslc@gmail.com. If you choose to call, please remember that this is a message number only and your call will be returned as soon as possible. If you are emailing, please include your name, phone number, pet’s name, and medical issue you are experiencing. A DACHS staff member will contact you to determine if you financially qualify for the program.

STEP 2: If you financially qualify for the program, you will then submit an Animal Relief Fund application that can be found electronically by clicking here. Please fill out the application, scan or take a photo of the completed application along with a document to show proof of income (check stub, Social Security/disability award letter, bank statement, etc.), and submit via email, along with a $50 copay through either debit card, credit card or cash. Debit or credit card payments can be made by clicking here. If you need to use cash for your copay payment, please contact the DACHS office to make arrangements on how to do this.

If you are unable to download and print a copy of the application, please contact the DACHS office to make arrangements to pick up a physical copy of the application. If you choose to submit a physical copy of the application, you will also need to submit a physical copy of your proof of income (check stub, Social Security/disability award letter, bank statement, etc.) and a $50 copay that is payable through debit card, credit card or cash. Debit or credit card payments can be made by clicking here. If you need to use cash for your copay payment, please contact the DACHS office to make arrangements on how to do this.

Additionally, you can also request that an application be physically mailed to you. If you would like a mailed copy of the ARF application, please call or email DACHS and a staff member will ensure you receive a copy of the application and you can proceed with the submission of the application, proof of income, and payment of copay as detailed above.

STEP 3: Once all of your information is received, a DACHS staff member will begin the processing of the application. When the application is processed, a voucher to receive veterinary care will be issued for up to $250 and the voucher will be sent directly to the office of your chosen veterinarian. Once the voucher is received by the veterinarian’s office, a DACHS staff member will contact you to notify you that you are clear to move forward with your veterinary appointment.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through this unique situation. Our goal is to continue to serve the people and pets in our community and provide access to programs that will keep people and pets together. Thank you!
